Gloomy forest opened the year not with a whimper, but with a city – Hightown! Right on January 1st, a fresh update and a new territory (The Hightown District) arrived in early access. secrecy game. This new area is very vaguely described as the “most vertical outdoor area” in the game, and it certainly looks as bleak as the rest of the game.
One of the big innovations in this area is a new enemy type, the Pig Constable. The launch trailer doesn't say much about how they might behave, although I imagine the images of pigs and police officers might hint at the kind of brutality they might inflict on you if you're spotted.
There are several new, as explained in the main less detailed Steam post, toys that can be purchased in the update. One of these toys is a revolver, albeit with a scope that looks like it could be useful for taking out enemies from afar. There's also a firebomb, which I assume does exactly what it says on the tin.
This update also serves as a reminder to me personally that I should really pick up Gloomwood one of these days. As much as I'd like to ignore it, as time goes on, this game has been in Early Access for over three years now. When it was launched, Alice B. dealt with it a bit. and found it quite good, but at the same time just unfinished, lamenting how difficult it was to recommend when the world wasn't ready for anyone to test their skills. Perhaps after all these years it's time to dive into this matter.
You can select or wishlist Gloomwood on Steam right now. Here.
