For the fourth time since 2022 Las Vegas Raiders are looking for a new head coach.

But this time they get help from NFL Legend.

Tom Brady, a minority owner of the Raiders, will work with general manager John Spytek to find the right next coach for the franchise after Pete Carroll was fired after just one season in Las Vegas.

“Going forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations, working closely with Tom Bradyincluding the search for the team's next head coach,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said Monday.

There was optimism when Carroll came out of retirement to join the Raiders after Antonio Pierce was fired last year. Carroll has Super Bowl experience, and the Raiders have made moves, including bringing in veteran Geno Smith at quarterback.

But the season was a disaster for the Raiders, with a 3–14 record marking the worst record in the league in 18 weeks.

One caveat: With the New York Giants beating the Dallas Cowboys to improve to 4-13 in Week 18, the Raiders own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

This is a potentially game-changing pick, and all signs point to Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza being the choice for a quarterback-starved team like the Raiders.

But first, the Raiders need to make sure the roster is moving in the right direction, so the choice of head coach is critical.

“Together they will make football decisions with a focus on leadership, culture and alignment with the long-term vision and goals of the organization,” Davis concluded in the statement.

Brady and Spitek had a long-standing relationship with each other before the latter was hired by the Raiders last year. They were together briefly in Ann Arbor as Michigan Wolverines teammates, but more importantly, Spitek was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Brady was with the organization near the end of his career.

This offseason, they will be competing with other teams looking for a new head coach, including the Giants, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals. The Falcons, Browns and Cardinals fired their head coaches on Black Monday, the day after the final week of the NFL regular season.

The Raiders made a connection with Brady in January 2022 when they hired Josh McDaniels as their next head coach after their rise to fame with the New England Patriots as offensive coordinator. However, McDaniels was fired midway through the 2023 campaign, giving way to Pierce in an interim role.

Pierce was ultimately hired in the offseason, taking over the role full-time in hopes that the Raiders would continue to rally around his offensive-minded coaching style, which emphasized aggressive play.

But Pierce ultimately didn't work out as Las Vegas relieved him of his duties before hiring Carroll.

Of course, the Raiders want to stop that trend with their leadership on the field, and it will be up to Brady and Spytek to get the recruiting right this time.
