Glowmade reportedly affected by layoffs

About a dozen Glowmade employees are reportedly facing layoffs.

This is according to Insider Gameswhich has reviewed documentation showing that the launch of King of Meat's game “did not substantially meet internal expectations.”

Sources claim the Guildford-based developer's management expected “at least 100,000 concurrent players” for the game on Steam, but “failed to consistently reach 1,000 across all platforms” with a peak concurrent player count of 320 on Steam. SteamDB.

As a result, earlier this month the studio reportedly “began discussions with employees about voluntary layoffs affecting about a dozen people.”

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Glowmade and Amazon Game Studios for comment.

Glowmade was founded in 2015 by three developers from Lionhead Studios. In 2021 independent studio in partnership with Amazon Game Studios as part of the expansion of third-party publishing activities.

Amazon Games will continue to publish King of Meat, which will be released in October 2025.

“It's very important to us to continue to create amazing games, but to make sure they're diverse in their look and feel,” Rosenblatt said.

“King of Meat was just the perfect opportunity for us to work with the very talented team at Guildford and really turn this game into something much bigger than they may have intended.”
