You may have noticed…
Things look a little different this morning, right? This is because we have moved the site to a new platform. If you're interested, we'll cover Show Your Work in the next Squawk newsletter, but the idea behind the change, aside from some savings in hosting and maintenance costs, is that it will give us more flexibility to respond to whatever direction this industry is heading; in particular, the ongoing destruction of the ad-supported Internet.
Besides the aesthetic changes and some differences in how you navigate from page to page, you'll notice the addition of a few paid tiers. (menu in the upper right corner on a mobile phone, “Login/Register” in the upper right corner on a computer). Now you will have the opportunity to subscribe to a light version of advertising or a version without advertising, while in the first case, banner and video advertising in articles is blocked, and All banner and video advertising in the latter.
There is also a free login tier that maintains the viewing experience we've always offered for free, and that won't change in the future. However, users signed into the free system will unlock dark mode as a reading option if you prefer (also available on paid tiers), and more features may be coming soon. So we hope you'll take a minute to set up your profile to get the full experience.
Here's what the site looks like in dark mode:
If you choose the premium version, payments will be processed by Stripe, the web standard for this type of payment processing – we do not store or process credit card information. And if you're a Squawk subscriber interested in opting out of ads, stay tuned for more information in your inbox early this week.
We hope you enjoy the new look and thank you for visiting our site! Two decades have passed and 4 or 5 versions of LaineyGossip have been released and we hope you will join us many more times…
