Star Wars Racer Revenge Physical Copies Surge to Hundreds on eBay After PS5 Jailbreak Reports

A forgotten Star Wars racing game returns

Physical copies of the once-overlooked Star Wars Racer Revenge have soared in price on eBay, with some listings now going for over $300, following reports that the game could be used to hack the PlayStation 5.

Recently completed listings show sharp and rapid price increases. On December 31, more than a dozen copies of the PlayStation 4 re-release sold for between $80 and $166. By January 1, 11 more copies had changed hands, with prices ranging from $180 to $364.50. Since then, dozens more listings have appeared, with many sellers asking $300 to $400 or more.

The sudden spike comes amid claims that Star Wars Racer Revenge contains the code needed to run a new method of jailbreaking the PlayStation 5. When used with a physical disc, the exploit reportedly allows users to bypass system restrictions. This opens the door to unauthorized software and pirated games. This discovery turned a niche racing game into a hot commodity almost overnight.

Not every buyer necessarily plans to use the console, but the perceived value of the game has clearly changed. Resale tracking site Resell Calendar has issued alerts informing owners and stores of retro games that boxed copies are in unusually high demand right now.

Originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2002, Star Wars Racer Revenge received a limited PS4 re-release from Limited Edition Games in 2019, with an estimated circulation of about 8,500 copies. Until recently, the game typically sold for around $20.

The renewed attention comes shortly after the announcement of Star Wars: Galaxy Racer. This is the new upcoming game in the franchise, presented at Gaming Awards 2025 and is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
