Will Ferrell's antics don't leave him skating on thin ice with fans.
The Elf star attended the Jan. 1 game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles dressed as an NHL referee.
The comedian wore a traditional black and white referee shirt with the NHL logo on the left chest, an orange armband and a helmet. He could be seen calling from his seat at the board.
Ferrell even joked that he helped coach two of the game's referees.
“I've always supported NHL referees,” Ferrell said during the game. FanDuel Sports Network West interview. “I actually coached two guys here. They're two of my prize students, Brandon and Francis. They make one heck of a game.”
He also said he was ready to intervene if necessary.
“I have everything ready to go at any moment because you never know, if one of these guys falls, I might have to put on my skates and go out there,” he joked.
Ferrell has season tickets for the Kings, but his officiating joke didn't help the team open the new year as the Lightning defeated the Kings 5-3.
