About 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured after a fire broke out in a bar at a popular ski resort in the Swiss Alps on New Year's Eve, police said. Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin said many of the victims were young people, including Swiss residents as well as tourists from neighboring countries and beyond.
