Disney Global Box Office Crosses $6.5 Billion, No. 1 Studio

UPDATE: The No. 1 movie studio of 2025 just updated its year-end global box office totals to $6.58 billion. With Disney's spending to date, that's $2.49 billion domestically and $4.08 billion internationally. As we mentioned earlier, this is the biggest box office year for Disney or any other studio since 2019. Disney has been No. 1 at the global box office for nine of the last ten years.

An estimated 700 million people saw a Disney film in theaters this year. The studio's 2025 releases total three billion grossing titles: Zootopia 2 (now the largest in the history of the Walt Disney Animation label), Lilo and Stitch And Avatar: Fire and Ash moving this week.

Upcoming releases in 2026 include: The Mandalorian and Grogu Memorial Day weekend, May 22; Avengers: Judgment Day December 18; Toy Story 5 June 19th and a Pixar original film Hoppers March 6; live adaptation Moana July 10; Cursed from Disney Animation Studios on November 25; sequels The Devil Wears Prada 2 summer begins on May 1st, and Searchlight's Ready or Not 2: Here I Come March 27; plus Send help January 30, Dog stars August 28 and whalefall October 16.

That ended up being $2.3 billion domestically, the best for any major U.S. film studio year-to-date, and $3.65 billion in international BOs.

Disney is the first and only studio to break the $6 billion mark this year. The next largest major company is Warner Bros with $4.3 billion. 2025 was Disney's most successful year yet BO since 2019, when it hit a record high of $13.1 billion. ($11.1 billion from Disney games alone, the rest from 20th Century Studios and Searchlight). This was the first and only time a major film studio topped $10 billion on the global BO Note. Warner Bros crossed $4 billion ahead of any other film studio for the first time this year.

This is the fifth time Disney has crossed the $6 billion mark, the previous years being 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016.

Disney earned $6 billion this year from 16 wide releases, including two films with box office receipts of $1 billion or more. Zootopia 2 ($1.3 billion today) and Lilo and Stitch ($1.038 billion) are the only two MPA titles to cross that mark. There have also been three Marvel Studios films that have collectively exceeded $1.3 billion worldwide: Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts* And Captain America: Brave New World. In addition, there was Predator: Badlands which became the highest grossing of the 38-year-old sci-fi thriller franchise with nearly $184 million, and Freaky Friday ($153.1 million). Things are not going very well, but they made their contribution to the bank Throne of Ares ($142.2 million) and Pixar Elio ($154.2 million).

Avatar: Fire and Ash Yesterday it grossed $50.8 million worldwide, with $16.5 million coming from North America. The total cost of Cameron, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno's story from the threequel is $119 million domestically and $331.1 million overseas. China continues to lead all offshore indicators with $67 million.

As we previously reported, Fire and Ash became the second-biggest global MPA title opening this year with $347 million, behind Disney's own opening. Zootopia 2 ($560.3 million). The threequel also became Cameron's second-biggest global opening after 2022. Avatar: The Path of Water at $441.7 million (historical data).
