If you played Hades 2 Since the game launched in Early Access, you may have seen two different “true” endings: one involving Melinoe and the other involving Zagreus. The latter appeared in a patch that changed the ending, and this was due to what players told developer Supergiant.
“Our post-launch patch was created in response to player feedback,” said Greg Kasavin, creative director at Supergiant Games. GamesRadar+. “Hades 2, like its predecessor, was designed from the ground up for Early Access, meaning we envisioned it as a game where listening and responding to player feedback would be at the core of the development process.”
Because of the changed climax, Hades 2 became a monument to choosing what is canon for you. If you played first and got the Zagreus version and liked it better, this is your ending. If Melinoe feels more suited, then that's what will work. There's a philosophical poetry to all of this, even if it's a bit hit-or-miss given that Supergiant just wants the project to progress.
“We've been thoughtful about these themes, refining story details in response to player feedback,” adds Kasavin. “All of the stories behind our games are based on our experiences working on them together.”
Hades 2 is another great game in Supergiant's catalogue, taking the magic of the first game and improving on it in almost every way. Will we ever see another true ending? I don't think predicting the future is part of any post-launch plans yet, but we'll see what tomorrow brings.
