As CA Gov I Will Charge ICE Agents, Take Away Their Drivers License

On Tuesday on MS NOW's “All In,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said that if he becomes governor of California, he would charge ICE agents and take away their driver's licenses if they commit crimes.

Host Jason Johnson said, “What would you do if you could be elected governor of California? Yeah, as we've seen over the years of this new regime, it's the states that tend to put up the strongest resistance. It's the governors of Illinois, it's the governor of Michigan, the governor of Virginia, Maryland, and everything else like that. What would you bring to the table? Because California, just in size and GDP, is kind of the pinnacle of what would you bring to the table as governor of California?

Swalwell said, “Well, as the governor of California, you have enormous powers and a responsibility to protect the state's most vulnerable people. So if the president is going to send ICE agents chasing immigrants through the fields where they work, I'm going to make sure they take off their masks and show their faces, show their identification. And if they commit crimes, they will be charged with crimes, if it's false imprisonment of people, if it's kidnapping, if it's assault, they will be held accountable. I will also be held accountable.” I think if the governor has the power to issue driver's licenses to people in California, if you're going to wear a mask and not identify yourself, you won't be able to drive in California, there's a lot you can do, but most importantly, you're going to have to go on the offensive, otherwise the most vulnerable in our community will always be on the defensive.”
