Nintendo Switch 2 Surpassed Three Consoles’ Lifetime UK Sales

The huge success of Switch 2

The latest market data shows that Nintendo's latest console is already leaving behind several older systems in the UK. Switch 2 has now surpassed the combined sales of several discontinued consoles, marking a strong first showing for Nintendo's latest hardware.

The data was reported by industry analyst Chris Dring on X, based on sales data from NielsenIQ. According to these figures, the Switch 2 has overtaken the Wii U in sales in the UK. Originally released in 2012 and discontinued in 2017, the Wii U has struggled commercially throughout its existence. Despite this, surpassing total UK sales in around six months remains a remarkable achievement for the Switch 2.

The same data also indicates that the Switch 2 has surpassed the lifetime sales of the PlayStation Vita and Sega Dreamcast in the UK. Both systems have faced challenges during their time on the market, but the comparison still highlights the sales pace of the Switch 2 since launch. In the UK alone, fewer consumers have purchased these consoles throughout their entire lifecycle than have already purchased the Switch 2 in the first half of the year.

Nintendo released the Switch 2 in June, and the console reportedly sold more than six million units worldwide in its first two months. To support continued demand, Nintendo has asked its manufacturing partners to produce up to 25 million units by March 2026.

Looking ahead, Nintendo has a steady stream of notable releases planned for the Switch 2. Upcoming games like Elden Ring, co-op ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia, and story-driven adventure Dispatch will help keep the console's momentum going.
