Stranger Things 5 Soars To 34.5M Views After Volume 2

Stranger Things 5 hanging over again Netflix last week, returning to number one on the streamer's weekly English-language series list with 34.5 million views from December 22 to 28.

This is largely thanks to three new episodes released on Christmas Day. At first glance, the number has decreased from the week of the first volume's releasebut that's because Netflix counts views as hours watched divided by time watched, and these new episodes added more than three hours to the season's total length. In fact, this is a strong result for the second volume.

Direct comparisons are difficult since Netflix hasn't said what share of viewership came from the new episodes, but rough estimates seem to indicate that the three episodes in the second volume performed as well (if not slightly better) than the first four.

For reference: a week before, only the first volume was accumulated 8.2 million views. Overall, season five has racked up 137.1 million views since volume one premiered in November. This already positions it as Netflix's fourth most-watched English-language TV season of all time, although the streamer won't officially take that spot. Stranger Things 5 on this list until all episodes become available. The finals will take place on December 31st at 5:00 pm PT/8:00 pm ET.

Unsurprisingly, all four previous seasons also made the weekly top 10 again, with the first season in fifth place (4.8 million views), the second season in ninth place (3.6 million views), the third season in eighth place (3.6 million views) and the fourth season in sixth place (4.1 million views).

Second place went to Emily in Paris Season five with 13.3 million views, which basically at the level of the debut week. Dave Chappelle's new comedy special took third place. Unstoppable…which had 9.2 million views.

Interestingly, the only title that really gave Stranger Things 5 the pursuit of one's money was Great FloodA Korean disaster film that ranked first on the list of non-English-language films with 33.1 million views. In the list of English films Dr. Seuss' Grinch took first place with 16.5 million views as families got into the holiday spirit. Second place went to Wake Dead: The Mystery of Drawing the Knives with 11.8 million views.

Third place, would you believe it, went to K-pop Demon Hunters. Even six months after its release, the film still racked up 9.2 million views in one week.
