Patriots WR Stefon Diggs charged with assault, strangulation

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is reportedly facing charges of strangulation or suffocation and assault and battery stemming from the Dec. 2 incident. according to Boston 25 News.

Diggs appeared in court remotely Tuesday morning, where his attorney sought to confiscate the police report. Defense attorney Michael DiStefano argued that details of the charges should remain confidential.

DiStefano also reportedly told the court that Diggs offered a financial settlement to resolve the issue with the alleged victim.

“They are currently working to come to an agreement on this issue,” DiStefano said.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the allegations made against Stefon Diggs,” the team said in a statement Tuesday. “Stephon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stephon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the relevant authorities and the NFL as appropriate. Out of respect for all parties involved and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
