Minnesota officials are responding to a viral video of a “haunted” daycare center shot by freelance journalist Nick Shirley.
I suspect their answer will not be go very well.
Minnesota officials said Monday that the state is re-inspecting several day care centers featured on a viral YouTube channel. fraud investigation but they say past visits and investigations have turned up no hard evidence of fraud. [….]
Speaking Monday, Department of Children, Youth and Families Commissioner Tikki Brown addressed the video directly.
Brown says each of the 10 facilities featured in the YouTube video has been visited by state authorities at least once in the past six months as part of routine license checks. Now, Brown said, the state is reviewing each site again to verify the claims made in the YouTube video. […]
Brown said previous visits were unannounced and children were present at each site during inspections. The state also says the number of children in kindergartens was in line with what would be expected at those facilities.
Brown said that while some locations had previously been investigated, “there was no finding of fraud at any of them.”
No money was withheld from any of the centers due to fraud, according to the report.
In turn, the story also clarified officials' report that the Quality Training Center had been closed, saying it remained open.
The NY Post confirmed this, sending the person to the Center. Now, on the Monday after the viral video, after all the hype, there were children there. A local resident told the Post that it was unusual: Locals had never seen children there.
The Post said they saw about 20 childrenhow they staked it out.
Ibrahim Ali, the owner's son who said he was the manager, told The Post on Monday that Shirley's visit took place before they opened. [….]
He also blamed the graphic designer for the infamous typo on the sign.
“What do I understand? [the owners] dealt with a graphic designer. He did it wrong. I think they didn’t think it was a big problem,” said Ali, 26, who said he helps with homework and paperwork at the institution.
“It will be fixed,” he said of the sign.
Another employee was reported to have swore at them: “Get out of here.”
KARE 11's Lou Ragus also said they appear to be open despite officials' initial report that they were closed.
