Boxing star Anthony Joshua's friends have been identified as victims car accident in nigeria The country's president announced this on Monday on social networks.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu wrote on X to offer his condolences to Joshua for the loss of his loved ones.

“I spoke with AJ to personally express my condolences on the passing of two of his close associates, Kevin Lateef Ayodele and Sina Gami, in a recent accident,” he wrote in his message. “I wished him a full and speedy recovery and prayed with him. AJ assured me that he was receiving the best possible care.

“I also talked to his mother and prayed for her. She was deeply grateful for the call.”

Joshua's condition was considered “stable” after the crash, Nigerian officials said. He suffered minor injuries but is otherwise fine.

“After a thorough clinical examination, medical professionals have confirmed that both patients (hospitalized following the accident) are stable and do not currently require any emergency medical intervention,” the Lagos and Ogun state governments said in a joint statement.

The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at 11am local time. Photos show Joshua being beaten and dragged from the car he was driving.

“The vehicle transporting Mr Joshua, a Lexus SUV, was involved in an accident in circumstances which are currently under investigation. Joshua, who was sitting in the back of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries and is receiving medical attention along with another injured person,” the Ogun State Police said in an earlier statement.

Federal Road Safety Corps spokesman Olusegun Ogungbemide said preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle “exceeded the legal speed limit in the corridor, lost control while overtaking and crashed into a truck standing on the side of the road.”

Ogun State officials said that “preliminary reports indicate that two foreign male nationals died on the spot.”

Joshua recently fought Jake Paul in a boxing match. Paul said he was praying for Joshua.

“Life is much more important than boxing. I'm praying for the lives lost, AJ and everyone impacted by today's unfortunate incident,” he wrote on X.

Joshua is the son of British Nigerian parents. When he was younger, he attended a Nigerian boarding school, but returned to the UK after his parents divorced.

Joshua is a three-time heavyweight champion. He held the WBA Heavyweight Championship, the IBF Heavyweight Championship and the WBO Heavyweight Championship. He lost his titles against Alexander Usik back in September 2021.
