This year Assassin's Creed: Shadows is an important step in the ongoing evolution of the blockbuster Ubisoft row. Nearly 20 years old, Assassin's Creed has thrived on consistently delivering smooth, fluid gameplay for those looking to join the Animus, with its main characters, Naoe and Yasuke, defining the next era of the Brotherhood movement.
Simon Lemay-Comtois, assistant director of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, explained this to us himself. “[Yasuke and Naoe] they have very different physical characteristics in the way they move,” he says. GamesRadar+. “I think that any future killer that we embody, if he's male, if he's a little bigger, all of these things can and should have a little bit of an impact on how his physicality is displayed in the world.”
Most notably, you have the Naoe grappling hook, which makes climbing up and down easier and faster than before. It's a kind of dexterity we didn't see in the previous Assassin's Creed title, and it's developed even further thanks to Yasuke's lively personality.
As Lemay-Comtois suggests, developers have a lot to think about on how to move forward in this direction. Different body shapes can unlock certain ways of maneuvering and discovering the world, requiring tandem efforts to get anywhere and develop a satisfying rapport with the game.
Of course, we don't yet know which Assassin's Creed will follow Shadows, but wherever it is, we can now expect even more action from our heroes. Another weapon in the fight against the Templars.
