Duolingoone of our CNET options for best language learning appsannounced on Monday that his Explain my answer This feature will be available on free plans on iOS starting January 1st. This is something I've been wanting to see in the free version of the app ever since I tried it. use it to learn Italian before traveling to Rome.
“Mistakes may be necessary for trainingbut knowing why there are rules and exceptions will help you gain confidence and improve your skills next time.” Duolingo wrote on its blog. “Explain My Answer creates personalized feedback that takes into account the mistake you made and what about the pattern or rule may be difficult for students like you.”
Duolingo launched Explain my answer in 2023, but it was limited to Duolingo Max, which costs $30 per month or $168 per year. This feature explains grammar rules such as gender and provides additional examples to help you understand why you got it wrong.

After you answer a question correctly or incorrectly in a language lesson, an “Explain my answer” button will appear at the bottom of the screen. When you click this button, the feature will explain the different parts of the question in one or more slides depending on the question.
I find this feature useful for learning certain language rules. In lessons it is not always clear what the rules for tenses are, for example, and such explanations seem more useful than rote memorization. This feature allows me to understand why something is right or wrong, not just what the correct answer looks like.
Explain My Answer will be available to English speakers learning Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Korean. Duolingo is working to bring this feature to more languages and free plans on Android devices in the future.
