“I won $1,500 on Let's make a deal. I got on the show by pretending to speak fluent Polish. I won “cash” on the show, but it was just a fake check from Wayne Brady with the amount written on it. I received a check in the mail about 90 days after the show aired (the check arrived on my birthday!).
“I want to know more about how you got on the show. What was this process like? What game were you playing?
“Well, we checked in online and headed to CBS Studios on time.
During the game, Wayne Brady randomly selects people from the crowd to play. It seemed like he wouldn't choose me until there was a game that had a bunch of Polish words in it. Wayne Brady asked if anyone in the crowd spoke Polish. I raised my hand and pointed at myself. Keep in mind, I don't look the least bit Polish. Wayne Brady didn't believe me and asked into the microphone if I knew Polish.
I knew this was a turning point. Either admit that I lied or fake it until I make it.
'Yeah. Free, I shouted. Wayne stopped the game. He left the participants and headed towards me. The music stopped playing.
– Stand up, sir. I did.
“What Polish words do you know?”
I repeated the remaining Polish word on the playing field. – I know Furniture.
'What does it mean?'
I knew I was knee deep now. Everyone was looking at me. The cameras were pointed at me. Wayne Brady was inches from my face, pointing his microphone at me. I posted the first nonsense that came to mind.
“I can’t just say what it means without context. You must consider using this word in a complete sentence.”
– You've had enough of Furniture, sit down! Wayne laughed it off and returned to the stage.
The contestant ended up choosing “Furniture” and won a ton of awesome furniture, etc.
I stood up and bowed long enough for Wayne to see me and throw his hands up at me as if to say, “Get out of here!”
Advertising break to show new games. I get some heat from co-host Andrew on the microphone (we were discussing the meaning of the word “furniture”).
Next thing I know, we're back in the game and Wayne Brady is picking his “Polish-speaking friend” (me) for the next game.
It was stupid though. I just stood there and joked while the other two contestants chose which prizes to give me. They both turned out to be cash. In turn, I got to pick their prizes and they got a decent deal too.
Great experience is ideal. Wayne Brady is a really smart guy and a really funny guy.”
