Yes, some compromises have been made along the way to showcase lightness and slenderness, but Japan has mastered the art of balancing form and function.
Some of these machines are the latest models, others are updated versions of the latest lines, but they all show how far Japanese manufacturers are willing to go when weight is seen as a primary goal rather than an afterthought.
1. FMV UX-K3 from Fujitsu
FMV UX-K3 one of the lightest 14-inch Windows 11 Home laptops are available weighing around 634g in the lightest configuration. It uses carbon fiber and magnesium-lithium alloy to reduce weight while maintaining a rugged feel.

There is Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. This model sacrifices battery capacity for weight, but still provides a full Windows experience.

3. Dynabook Portégé Z40L-N

5. iiyama PC STYLE-14FH124-C5-UCEX
Weighing less than 1 kg, this 14-inch laptop features an Intel Core 5 120U processor with 10 cores and 12 threads, coupled with 8GB of memory and a 500GB NVMe SSD in the base configuration.
The 1920 x 1080 resolution display is glare-free, and graphics are handled by an integrated Intel solution.
It includes Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen2 and Gen1 ports, HDMI, microSD slot, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth.
Prices for the basic version in Japan are from the equivalent of $707 and above.
6. iiyama PC STYLE-14FH124-C5-UCFX
It's a slightly updated version of the previous laptop, weighing the same under 1kg, but with 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD.
It uses the same Intel Core 5 120U processor and 14-inch FHD display as the base model. The port layout is identical to Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen2, USB 3.2 Gen1, HDMI and microSD.
It also has the same wireless support. Prices for this configuration in Japan are usually higher than the base model. often around $835.
7. Dynabook G8, G6 and GS
Dynabook G Series Covers three closely related 13.3-inch laptops they all have the same goal: to maintain a weight of around 849g without sacrificing everyday functionality.
The G8, G6 and GS models share the same basic chassis and layout, with the differences largely coming down to processor level and configuration.
Most versions use Intel Core Ultra processors: the G8 is usually paired with Core Ultra 7, and the G6 and GS with Core Ultra 5 options. Memory is 16 GB LPDDR5X, SSD storage is 512 GB. Integrated graphics allow you to monitor temperature and power consumption.

It features an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor paired with Intel Arc graphics, which helps it handle heavier visual workloads than most ultralight PCs.
Typical configurations include 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. The 14-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, a 16:10 aspect ratio and anti-glare coating.
Ports include two USB-C with Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet, a microSD reader, and a headphone jack. Wireless support covers Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
9. Panasonic Let's celebrate SC
Let's celebrate Panasonic's SC uses a smaller 12.4-inch display, but focuses on durability, battery flexibility and connectivity rather than chasing the lowest possible weight. Despite this, its weight is still about 900 g.
The display has a resolution of 1920 x 1280 and an aspect ratio of 3:2, which is suitable for working with documents and viewing. Current configurations feature Intel Core Ultra processors, including Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 variants, paired with 16GB of memory and SSD capacities starting at 512GB. Graphics are integrated.

Another configuration weighing less than 1 kg from the iiyama PC line. This model Comes with an Intel Core i5-1335U processor with 16GB of memory and a 500GB SSD. The 14-inch Full HD display and lightweight design make this model portable without the need for everyday essentials.
The port selection includes Thunderbolt 4, USB, HDMI, microSD and audio, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth.
Prices for this particular configuration in Japan are generally in the same range as other mid-range iiyama models, at around $1,000.
