Wnba Commissioner Katie Engelbert stated that there was a lot of “inaccuracies” at the beginning of a personal conversation, that at the beginning of this year it occurred in a private conversation that occurred earlier this year. She specifically denied the alleged comments on how Caitlin Clark “should be grateful that she earns $ 16 million at the court, because she will do nothing without a platform that she gives.”
Engelbert turned to the situation at the press conference before the Friday game of the 1st final Wnba.
“Obviously, I did not make these comments,” Engelbert said. “Caitlin was a transformational player in this league. She was an excellent representative of the game. She brought tens of millions of new fans to the game, proud that she put on the court, unfortunately, the injuries kept her from the full season this year.
“But again, I'm not going to enter into every counterpoint point, this is not productive. Here we are here to celebrate the Wnba final. I think that what Indiana had just done was amazing with all the injuries that they had, and all with whom they encountered this year, and brought it to the game 5 and overtime.
Earlier this week Clark herself spoke about the situation But he did not have much consideration that Engelbert allegedly said about her. Nevertheless, Clark said that Collier made “many very reliable moments” and that this is an important point for the League.
Engelbert did not go into details about what other parts of Colliera’s statements were inaccurate. Nevertheless, she emphasized that she was disappointed in the whole situation and wanted to work on improving her relationship with the players.
“I was disappointed to hear that some players feel the league, and I personally do not care about them and do not listen to them,” she said. “And if players in W do not feel valuable and appreciated by the league, then we must achieve more success, and I have to achieve more.”
