Danganronpa, a series of games that I will never be able to accurately describe, just passed the 10 million sales mark, manufacturer Spike Chunshoft announced.
Best described in the Danganronpa Pride Week 2023 article. Danganronpa launched in 2010 on the PlayStation Portable as a “Battle Royale and Ace Lawyer visual novel series that is, frankly, insane.” Since then, it's had three main series entries, two spin-offs, and a new Danganronpa 2×2 game on the way next year. It will feature a new scenario and an updated scenario from Danganronpa 2.
In the Danganronpa games, you play as high school students who are forced to kill each other with the help of a teddy bear who loves to monologue. The gameplay combines discussion and marksmanship. It's a strange mixture.
“Entertainment media leads us to believe that we are always safe in the company of those with whom we are familiar, despite clear evidence to the contrary,” we wrote in a separate article on Danganronpa that explores the series' wicked appeal..
“Danganronpa ups the ante by offering another variable to this idea. What do you do when you can't trust the people in charge or those who are sterling examples for our community? What then? What then remains for representatives of the middle class and ordinary people?
“Built on carefully crafted layers of paranoia, Danganronpa is a game about archetypes being dismantled and dissected, a game about the degradation of a supposed utopia, and a game with surprisingly good writing. And a game that's definitely worth picking up.”
