Five dead including two tourists after helicopter crashed into popular climbing route on Mount Kilimanjaro

Five people, including two tourists, have tragically died after a helicopter crashed on Mount Kilimanjaro, authorities said.

All five on board the plane died in the crash, which occurred at an altitude of 15,400 feet above Camp Barafu, the country's aviation authority said.

The dead were identified as a guide and a doctor, both local residents, a Zimbabwean pilot and two tourists from Czech RepublicTanzania National Parks said this in a statement.

Local news Media reported that the helicopter was on a medical rescue mission.

Regional police Commander Simon Maigwa told reporters that the aircraft was operated by Kilimanjaro Aviation, which provides medical evacuation and other aviation services.

Mount Kilimanjaro, AfricaRussia's highest peak is 20,000 feet above sea level.

About 50,000 tourists climb Kilimanjaro every year.

This happens after 11 people died when a small plane carrying tourists crashed crashed en route to a famous wildlife safari in Kenya.

The plane was en route to the Maasai Mara National Reserve when it crashed in hilly and forested terrain in the coastal region of Kwale, authorities said.

They said there were 11 people aboard the Cessna Caravan that crashed, killing everyone on board.

Officials said the plane, operated by Kenyan airline Mombasa Air Safari, was transporting vacationers on a popular safari at the time of the crash.

The airline said there were eight Hungarians, two Germans and a Kenyan crew member on board the plane.

The plane crashed a few minutes later take off and caught fire, leaving charred debris at the scene, officials said.

Eyewitnesses said they heard a loud bang and discovered wreckage of the plane upon arrival at the scene.
