President Donald TrumpThe controversial name change of the famed Kennedy Center has indeed stirred some… a Christmas Eve jazz concert was canceled in protest at the performing arts center.
Chuck Reddhost of a Christmas Eve concert told The Associated Press that he pulled the plug on the event because he was angry. Trump changed the name of the venue from the John F. Kennedy Center to the Trump-Kennedy Center.
Redd said, “When I saw the name change on the Kennedy Center website and then a few hours later on the building, I decided to cancel our concert.”
He also told CNN that he was “saddened” by the name change because he had performed at the Kennedy Center since the beginning of his music career.
Since 2006, Redd has hosted Jazz Jams at the center during the holiday seasons. He plays the drums and vibraphone and has toured with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie And Ray Brown.
After the murder in 1963 President KennedyCongress honored his memory by passing legislation to name the center in his honor.
As for Trump…he told reporters last week that he was “surprised” and “honored” by the board's decision. name the center after him.
