Although I'm generally quite frugal with my purchases, even I can't resist the temptation to splurge. In winter, I can’t help but give in to all my impulses – I stock up oversized sweatersI sip on chamomile tea and decorate my home with cozy accents. In the case of my latest purchase, I passed on perhaps the most enjoyable Amazon bestseller to date: Bed blanket ($19).

From the first moment I saw this blanket, I knew I needed it in my home; with a 4.5 rating and nearly 17,500 rave reviews on Amazon, I guess far just from my adoration of the product. And really, what's not to like here? Fluffy fleece material! Bright ribbed details! Soothing color schemes! This throw the blanket has all the self-care essentials that are destined to go viral on TikTok any day now. Ahead of its supposed popularity, I decided to test the home accessory for myself – analyzing its soft composition, weight and overall softness – to see if it was really worth the hype.

What I love about this blanket

For context, I used this blanket. every day from the date of arrival by mail; it hangs on my bed when I sleep at night, on the couch when I'm lounging in the evenings, and even on my office chair when I'm working at my desk. It's become as much a part of my daily routine as a good moisturizer or a cup of coffee, so it's fair to say there's very little I need. Not sort of about this.

What's worth noting about this quilt?

I'll admit, the product photos convinced me that this blanket was much thicker and heavier than it actually is. In the images on Amazon, the blanket looks much more textured, and the bubble design gives it a unique look. The reality is that the structure is more like a classic throw blanket with subtle ribbed details that are unique but not nearly as vibrant as the product images depict. This isn't necessarily a bad thing; I'm still obsessed with the coziness of the blanket and really appreciate that it's breathable enough to be used year-round, as opposed to a thicker piece that I might just save for fall or winter use. But if you're looking for a thick marshmallow blanket, I'd recommend buying another option.
