Nick Gergesha – guitarist of the Toronto punk trio Sunsets and Workers Comp bassist – has passed away. He was 35 years old.
Both bands announced his passing via their social media accounts, with Sundowner's message reading: “Unable to share this. Our wonderful friend and bandmate Nick has passed away. This is a complete shock and we are devastated. We are unable to share details at this time. He was the kindest and most thoughtful person in punk and was so important to so many people. We love you all.”
Workers Comp shared: “We are almost at a loss for words. The last few days have been like a surreal fog. The only consolation was seeing how many people loved Nick as much as he loved the world.”
A visitation and funeral are planned for next week. The Gergeshi family wrote in an online obituary: “Although Nicholas has left this earthly realm, his legacy lives on—a legacy of love that will continue to light the lives of family and friends in their darkest hours. May his spirit soar on the wings of eternal peace, forever cherished in the tender embrace of memory.”
Sundowner have just released their debut full-length album. Work dream earlier this year.
