I mean, all you can do is laugh, right? Based on the title, you probably already guessed what exactly it is, but we’ll still delve into it. Yes, Ark 2 was delayed, the same Arc 2 that was shown almost exactly five years ago, it was at some point in time promised to be released in 2023and then 2024and then like unenthusiastically planned for 2027before landing where we are now with the news that the game is scheduled for release in 2028. Yes!
This is taken from an interview with Studio Wildcard co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz on the Epic Games Store. blog (Stop stealing our business, Mr. Sweeney. “One of the things about making ARK 2 was that we felt like we needed to learn a lot more about how to make the kind of game we wanted to make, and do it in stages,” Stiglitz said of the delay. “Learning both the technology and the mechanics seemed safer to us than just trying to release a whole separate product called ARK 2.”
The founder of the studio spoke about how the addition for Ark: Ascension Survival Legacy of Santiago, due out in 2027, will feature some of the combat mechanics planned for Ark 2, like third-person Soulsian combat, but “it won't have all that crazy narrative world-building content that we want to do with Ark 2.”
Talking about this narrative, it honestly sounds like a mess. Stieglitz shared that they have a “much more ambitious plot for Arc 2,” but noted that, oddly enough, “it will actually depend heavily on how involved Vin Diesel actually is, which is still an open question.”
He goes on to note that they currently don't know how many days or even hours they will spend with the Fast and the Furious actor. “The scale of what kind of performance we're going to get determines how the narrative will develop. We have a narrative that if we get a lot of Vin Diesel, this is what we will do, and if we get some Vin Diesel, this is what we will do.”
Perhaps this is a lesson in how not to announce your game with a pre-rendered trailer featuring a very famous and extremely mediocre actor who is too busy feuding with another mediocre actor. I await news of the game's next delay in 2029 with a little glee but a lot of anticipation.
