The Danganronpa Series Has Sold More Than 10 Million Copies Worldwide

What a brilliant milestone for Danganronpa

Spike Chunsoft confirmed that Danganronpa The series has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, marking a major milestone for the long-running mystery adventure franchise.

The series first debuted in Japan on November 25, 2010 with the release of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc for PSP. What started out as a niche visual novel quickly gained a loyal following thanks to its signature blend of murder mystery, legal drama and dark humor. Over the years, the franchise has expanded to include three main games released on different platforms, as well as localized versions that have introduced the series to a global audience. In addition to the main games, two additional games explored the Danganronpa universe and its characters.

The latest release in the series was Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, which was released on Nintendo Switch in 2021. While nothing has been heard about the franchise since then, fans have a lot to look forward to. Spike Chunsoft has announced Danganronpa 2×2, an expanded edition of the second main game, scheduled to release on Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 in 2026. This version will retain the original story and cast, but will introduce an additional alternate story route and improved visuals.

Series creator Kazutaka Kodaka also remained active outside of Danganronpa. In 2025, he released The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy to critical acclaim, followed later that year by SHUTEN ORDER to a more mixed response.
