‘Twas the night before Christmas: 2025 CFL edition

With my annual apology to Clement Clark Moore, here is my rendition of the 2025 CFL theme song. “It Was the Night Before Christmas”. Enjoy and Merry Christmas everyone.

“It was the night before Christmas, and as I was having supper,
I started thinking back to this year's Gray Cup.
The skill and execution were in the Roughriders,
The best team of the year, they won when it mattered most.

Despite some difficulties with the kicker position,
Which has undoubtedly caused stress on the Saskatchewan ticker.
The end result managed to bring a smile to my face,
About a good guy and head coach Corey Mays.

There was such a roar throughout the country,
Because Commish changed some of the rules that really matter.
Gone are the days when you could return a missed field goal,
How Stuart and friends moved the pole.

The blush has changed, the field will also change,
According to Stu, all with good intentions.
They say it will lead to touchdowns and goals.
But “leave it alone!” hardcore fans begged.

Other fans thought they'd give it a try and see:
(Not counting Argonaut legend Pete Djakowski).
If it brings more success, it will be a glorious feat,
Something I could attest to from sitting in my old end zone seat.

Now to cross the rest of the league,
In order not to lose Dear Reader due to fatigue from talking about the rules.
It seems we've already spent enough time applauding,
So, a pit stop at each market, a verse for your team.

Nathan Rourke led the Lions one step away from greatness.
Before you make it to the playoffs and be doomed to fate,
Watching another year go by
Like the best QB in the wrong game that was played last.

There was a different atmosphere in horse country,
Because the Stampeders seemed to be back on track.
Double your winnings and bring back your smiles.
This happened because V.A. threw the ball several miles.

Just up north on the highway, it's a hectic time of year
While the Moose were looking for the reason.
From Ford to Fajardo, the decision was tough.
But as soon as this was done, victories came to everyone.

The bombers were older, apparently in a hurry,
Zach could no longer pick up the ball and then run.
They decided to keep the group mostly together,
2026 may be a storm they simply cannot weather.

Steeltown's Gray Cup drought is unbelievable
Especially considering this year and what they've accomplished.
Mitchell and Lawler have a special bond.
Only to fall at the feet of the brawler.

“Argos” made all the statisticians laugh.
Especially the veteran QB Nick Arbuckle.
“Saint Nick” managed to play only 15 games,
If he started more, he could be a contender for the title of better passer.

In Ottawa, land of endless CFL grief,
I give credit to the fans who keep going.
The lack of results should make fans ready for a draw.
Because nothing works, no matter how hard the team tries.

Finally, our tour stops in the province of La Belle.
Where Davis Alexander just needed a chance.
He threw away the records of victories,
Unfortunately, the Gray Cup was his first defeat.

And with this I can calmly end all this,
And offer to fill your favorite cup,
Thanks to knowledge and wisdom 3DownNation,
The best place to get all your CFL information.

We strive for the best, we tell you our thoughts,
We make predictions, we make the best shots.
You have made our future incredibly bright,
and so Merry Christmas to everyone and good night to everyone!
