Esophaguys Just Received ‘The Neckening Update’ on All Platforms

So many new features are coming to Esophagys

The Esophagys team has released The Neckening Update for Esophagus on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox and Steam. This update enhances competitive play by introducing a wide range of quality of life improvements, as well as notable visual and audio enhancements.

At the heart of the update is the evolution of Masochist mode, which now includes global online leaderboards. Players can track speed records, set personal best times, and compare results directly with friends. This addition transforms the punishing structure of roguelikes into a long-term competitive environment built entirely on precision, endurance, and neck physics.

The update fully opens up four-player co-op and introduces special co-op levels designed for group play. These stages focus on shared goals, coordinated movements, and chaotic energy, and the electrical circuit mechanics are designed exclusively for multiplayer environments.

The team also improved several game systems. A completely redesigned camera eliminates shake and improves responsiveness. Character animations are smoother, minigame scoring now includes festive visuals, and center interactions like orb and gnome deposits provide clearer visual feedback. Advanced customization adds new emotes and adjustable neck length, while a redesigned menu helps new players understand the game's core mechanics.

Audio design is also a defining feature of the update. Nearly 4,500 sound effects recordings now form the game's soundscape, with unique vocalizations from characters such as gnomes, whales, chickens, Travnek, and hub elements. In competitive mini-games, music mixing has also been improved, and the signature Jew's harp and banjo combinations have been improved.

Apart from these additions, the update includes a wide range of bug fixes and design tweaks to ensure a smoother and more seamless experience overall.
