Your Android phone may soon offer smart suggestions based on your activity

WITH Pixel 10 seriesGoogle introduced Magic cuean AI-powered feature that analyzes how you use your phone and offers personalized suggestions and app actions to make everyday tasks faster and more convenient. For now, this is limited to Google's latest flagships, but the company appears to be working on creating something similar for more Android phones.

According to Android authorityGoogle is preparing a new feature called “Contextual Suggestions” that will offer users “helpful suggestions from apps and services based on their daily activities and locations.” The company has already started testing this feature in the beta version of Google Play Services version 25.49.32.

Users of the latest beta can turn it on by going to Settings > Google Services > All Services > Other and clicking the toggle on the Contextual Suggestions page, although it's not available to all beta testers just yet. The settings page provides an example of how this works, highlighting that if a user frequently listens to music while working out, this feature can automatically prompt the music app to suggest a playlist when they get to the gym.

For offers that depend on the user's location, there is a toggle on the settings page to enable location sharing. It also includes a Manage Your Data option that allows users to delete data collected for contextual suggestions, as well as a privacy section that says the feature operates in an encrypted space on the device and does not share user data with other apps or Google.

How contextual offers work

The section on how this feature works shows that it relies on device activity and location data to make predictions about what might be useful to the user. It provides an additional example that states that if a user frequently streams sports games on their TV on a particular day, they can offer a casting offer on that day at a suitable time.

It's unclear whether contextual suggestions will be limited to Google's own apps or extended to third-party apps. Google is expected to share more details once the feature becomes widespread.
