Freedom Mobile discounts BYOP plans by $9/mo for Boxing Week

Freedom Mobile Boxing Week Offers it's even better with the company multiple plans reduced by $9 per month for customers bringing their own phones (BYOP).

According to an update on Freedom's website, the provider now offers the following plans:

• $34/10GB 5G Canada/USA/Mexico with one-time 1GB Roam Beyond data (unchanged).
• $39/70GB 5G Canada/US/Mexico with one-time access to 10GB of Roam Beyond (unchanged).
• $40/100GB 5G in Canada, US, and Mexico with 15GB Roam Beyond (regular $49).
• 50GB/150GB 5G Canada/US/Mexico with 25GB Roam Beyond (regular $59).
• 60GB/200GB 5G for Canada/US/Mexico with 30GB Roam Beyond (regular $69).
• 70GB/250GB 5G for Canada/US/Mexico with 35GB Roam Beyond (regularly $79).

The discount includes an ongoing BYOP credit of $9 per month, although it's worth noting that there are some conditions that may cause the credit to be waived. According to Freedom's fine print, customers must activate a new line or upgrade to a qualifying BYOP plan to receive credit. Freedom says the credit will last “as long as you remain active on the qualifying plan as a bring-your-own-phone customer,” but if customers change their plan or purchase a phone from Freedom, the credit will disappear.

Overall, the new Freedom plans are really solid in my opinion. The carrier already had some of the best options, but the BYOP credit makes them even better. Public mobile is the only provider with plans close to those like Code, FidoAnd Virgin Plus offering 40/50 GB plans. And if you want a 100GB plan from one of the Big Three, you're looking at about $75 a month.

My advice, as always, is to go the BYOP route and if you need a phone, buy it outright. It will be cheaper in the long run in most cases, especially if you can get a 40/100GB plan from Freedom. And it’s even better when you can immediately get a phone for sale – for example, such discounted Pixel phones.
