Bari Weiss Issued Deranged Memo to 60 Minutes Staff on Axed Segment

CBS editor-in-chief Bari Weiss spoke about this. 60 minutes to producers, she killed her story about the CECOT mega-prison in El Salvador, where Trump deported more than 250 Venezuelan immigrants, because it “didn't make the administration's case.”

“What we have is Caroline Leavitt saying they are the villains in America (rapists, murderers, etc.). But in light of the torture we talk about, isn't there something worth asking?” Weiss wrote in Sunday reminder. “Tom Homan and Stephen Miller are not one to mince words. I understand we sent an email to the DHS representative, but we need to do a lot more to get these executives on the record.”

Weiss' decision to drop the story because it didn't get enough perspective from DHS officials, who had already refused to talk to 60 minutes—was met with outrage when it was leaked on Monday. But it doubled.

“We need to be able to record leadership speeches on the record and on camera,” she said. said in a phone call Monday, implying that testimony from CECOT inmates was not enough.

Destroying a story about a violent mega-prison because the people who send people to the violent mega-prison are not represented prominently enough was not received favorably.

“The Trump administration has sent dozens [of] young people with no criminal record will be tortured and abused in a foreign prison,” podcaster Jon Favreau. wrote. “@bariweiss may continue to report, delay, or kill this story altogether, but the basic facts have been well documented in numerous court cases, including by Trump's own Justice Department and Trump-appointed judges.”

“Bari Weiss's main criticism is that 60 Minutes doesn't advance the story,” writer Randy Hoder. called. “But her solution is to ask Stephen Miller to spew the same talking points that this administrator has made all along, and that we have heard millions of times)!”
