Far-left podcaster and former MSNBC host Joy Reid stepped up her attacks on Turning Point USA President Erica Kirk after the latter injections in Rida during AmericaFest 2025.
During her opening remarks at the TPUSA conference on Thursday, Kirk joked that Reed could use a “really big hug” and that she would even touch the back of her head. This was implied when Reed disparaged Kirk for the way she hugged Vice President J.D. Vance during US turning point event.
Reid repeated at her show on Friday that Kirk looked “very close” to Vance “in her cheeky shorts” and refused Kirk's offer of a hug.
POWER MOVE 2028: TURNING POINT'S ERIKA KIRK SUPPORTS J.D. Vance as Magee, the “heir”

“The last thing I will say to Erica Kirk is this: Dear young lady, I don't need your hugs,” Reed said. “First of all, I would never let you get close enough to hug me because I don't trust you. And secondly, I don't know if anyone ever told you—you're pretty young—but don't suggest touching black women's hair. We don't allow this. These are not 19 year olds. This is not the 1920s or 1930s. This won't work. I don't allow this. So don’t suggest it because it won’t happen.”
Reed also supported her proposal that Vance could have left his “Brown Indian” wife to be with a “White Queen” like Kirk and appealed to the MAGA base, claiming that it was the MAGA base that attacked Usha Vance's race.

“MAGA is racist. Not me. All I say is the highest degree In the MAGA tale, J.D. left Usha Vance alone and ran off with Charlie Kirk's widow. It brings MAGA houses together,” Reed said.
She told Kirk that she should instead focus on appealing to “white Christian nationalists” as a working single mother.
“You need to take care of your business, which is keeping that $80 million, and figure out how you're going to get these white Christian nationalists who follow Turning Point USA to understand why you're working and not at home with your kids who now don't have a dad,” Reed said. “Now you’re a single mother, which is what they’re against.”

She continued: “Now you're going to have to figure out how you're going to explain to your Turning Point base in the US why you work and why you're rubbing the back of JD Vance's head and offering to rub the back of my head and not at home with your kids because their ideology is that your ass should be in your house. That's all I'm going to say.”
