Kayleigh Humphries stepped up her preparations for the Cortina Olympics in Milan by returning to the winner's circle for the first time since 2023 on Sunday as the US bobsledder celebrated her first world championships win since becoming a mother.

Humphries won gold for Canada in the two-women's event in Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi four years later, and bronze in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018 before switching to the U.S. side to win monobob gold at the 2022 Beijing Games.

She then took a seasonal break from the sport in December 2023 while pregnant.

The 40-year-old, who teamed up with Emily Renna to win the two-woman World Cup race in Sigulda, Latvia, on Sunday, last won the race in February 2023 at the same venue.

“To be back at the top after three years is great,” Humphreys said. “This is my first victory as a mother and Emily’s first victory. This is a special victory for both of us.

“The perfect Christmas gift for both of us and the whole team.”

The Milan Cortina bobsleigh competition will take place in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, from 12 to 22 February.
