After Travis Kelce makes a grand romantic gesture to Taylor SwiftThe singer's mother helped her daughter give the football player a chance.
In Episode 4 of SwiftEnd of an eraIn the Disney+ docuseries, Andrea Swift recalled how she was always Team Travis.
“I watch the headlines and look at what's on the internet,” she said while telling the story backstage to Swift along with her brother Austin and publicist Tree Payne. “I see that this guy came to your show, brought a friendship bracelet and wants to meet you.”
In 2023, Kelsey attended one of Taylor Swift's concerts and tried to give the singer a friendship bracelet with his phone number. Alas, he learned that she had not dated anyone before or after the performance, trying to save her voice for a concert that lasted more than three hours.
Kelsey shared his efforts on his New Heights podcast and admitted that he was “a little hurt” that he didn't get to meet Taylor Swift.
After Andrea Swift learned of Kelsey's attempt to meet her daughter, she began investigating her potential suitor.
“So, of course, I call my resident Kansas City Chiefs expert, my cousin Robin, and say, 'Tell me about this guy named Travis Kelce,'” she recalls. “And she says, 'Oh my God, he's the nicest guy.' And you know what, he really loves his mom.” And I went, ding, ding, ding, ding. Then I said, “How can I get her to meet him now?”
Taylor Swift then explained that she was never interested in dating athletes.
“I've never been an athlete, because I'm not, and I always just said, 'Well, what should we talk about?' – she told her mother. “And so you call me like, 'Hey, I know you're going to react badly to this, but there's a guy…'”
“He's very cute!” Andrea Swift added.
“You said something like, 'It's time for you to start doing something different,'” Taylor Swift recalls.
Andrea Swift then explained why she was so impressed by Kelsey's romantic gesture.
“Listen, it was so serious. I thought it was the nicest thing in the world that he came on your show. He brought you something from your world. That really says a lot to me,” she said.
Taylor Swift decided to give Kelsey a chance, and after almost two years of dating, they announced their engagement in August 2025.
“On our first date, he literally had to explain football as if it were brutal chess,” she recalled. “It helps me understand it. Like high-speed, evil chess. And then I just became obsessed with it and therefore became obsessed with learning football. The biggest surprise of my life.”
After all, the pop star's mother also approves of their relationship.
“He's truly one of the happiest people I've ever met and who I adore. He just brought a lot of happiness, and I think that's what he does in a lot of his circles. He brings a lot of happiness to the world,” she said in the doc.
Reflecting on her romantic life before Kelsey, Swift said she always struggled with balancing relationships and career. However, the dynamic changed when she met Kelsey.
“I don't think I'll ever meet a guy who has the same (career) trajectory. And I realized that this person in my life is perfect for me. You can have two passions coexist and they actually feed off each other,” she said.
