Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency

Iranian officials Executed a man convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence and its army over the weekend, state media reported.

The man was Agil Keshavarz, who was executed on Saturday, state media reported.

According to state media, Keshavarz, 27, “worked closely in intelligence” with the Mossad, Israel’s national spy agency, and took photographs of Iranian military installations and security zones.

Keshavarz was arrested in May while photographing military headquarters in the city of Urmia, located about 371 miles northwest of Iran's capital Tehran.

He was accused of carrying out more than 200 similar Mossad missions in various Iranian cities, including Tehran.

Keshavarz was tried and sentenced to death on charges of espionage. The country's Supreme Court later upheld the verdict, according to state media.

Iran completed 11 for espionage following a 12-day Israeli-led air conflict in June that killed about 1,100 people in Iran, including military commanders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with a rocket attack that killed 28 people in the Jewish state.

In October, Iran executed an unidentified man convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence in the city of Qom.

Iran has executed several more people in recent years. June conflict on charges of spying for the Mossad, including multiple times earlier this year.

Iran regularly holds closed trials of people accused of spying, with suspects often unable to access evidence prosecutors used against them in their case.
