Cemeteries, sheep farms and garden lawns are one of hundreds of new places for rare pink and purple mushrooms found by civilian scientists.
The charity plant registered 850 volunteers to search for wax suits in their local areas, so scientists can get data from places such as private gardens, to which they had not previously had access.
They found 300 new places of pink wax landscape with sweets (Porpolomopsis Calyptriformis)what is It is classified as “vulnerable” in the global International Union of Nature Preservation (a red list of threatened MSOP species and 18 new places of dynamic purple coral, Clavaria Zollingeri.
“Last year was our largest year in history for civilian research,” said Dr. Eilin Baird, senior mushroom protection officer in Plantlife. “The interest of people in mushrooms is definitely growing, and we would not find these new places without them.”
Before the survey in the database of the British Mycological Society, a little more than 1000 pink wax and 183 purple coral sites were registered, so new results have significantly expanded the data.
Baird added that in the UK there was a “relatively large number” of these mushrooms, despite the fact that they were rarely at the international level, since they flourish in the type of ancient pastures with nutrients that are found in Britain.
“They are vulnerable at the international level, which puts them in the same category as the snowy leopards and giant pandas in terms of their risk of extinction. Thus, we bear international responsibility in the UK for protecting these mushrooms, ”she said.
She added that they were “very beautiful” and the indicator of these increasingly rare ancient meadows. “This is the habitat that we lose a huge amount, so these mushrooms can also be in a really good way when we find out where these remnants of ancient meadows are located.”
This habitat was lost for development and agriculture, as well as planting trees, since Grigs need pastures, and not in forest places. “There may be something like a collision, because, obviously, the planting of the trees as a whole is a positive thing, but this should be in the right places. And therefore, this is a change in land use and intensive agriculture. The fungi do not like fertilizers and fungicides and other types of pesticides and things such as falling and violation of the soil.
For novice civilian scientists, wax costumes are a good view with which you can start, as they are easy to identify. “If you are in the herbal habitat, then they are quite distinctive,” Baird said. “They, as a rule, are quite brightly painted. So we have bright, pink, orange, yellow, some even like green and purple. ”
Claire Blenko, a member of the committee on mycology and preservation in the field of mycology and protection for the protection of the environment of the British mycological society, said: “There are so many new places as for pink wax and purple coral. These mushrooms are vital indicators of the health of our pastures and emphasize the biologicality that exist around us, as well as in our countries. Where these threatening views survive. ”
Wax clock An annual autumn examination of Plantlife aimed at identifying new places where you can find fungi in pastures. This year’s survey takes place from September 15 to December 31.
