Steelers’ DK Metcalf swings at Lions fan, could face NFL discipline

Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver D.K. Metcalf swung at a fan in the Ford Field stands during the team's game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

CBS was able to capture the tense moment.

During the conversation, they talked to each other before Metcalf appeared try to grab the fan's blue wig. He then aimed his clenched fist at the fan at his face, although it seemed to miss him.

Metcalf was not ejected because officials did not see the altercation, but ESPN reported that the NFL will review the incident.

While Metcalf will almost certainly face league discipline, whether he is suspended or not will be a big question for a Steelers team that is in the midst of the playoff hunt.

Metcalf – defender Aaron Rodgers'favorite player in the spacious receivers room. Entering the game, Metcalf had 808 yards on 55 catches and six touchdowns this season.

Coming into the game, the Steelers led the AFC North division at 8–6, with the Baltimore Ravens trailing them at 7–7. The Ravens will take on the New England Patriots later Sunday night, but they're likely tuning in to see what happens to Pittsburgh in Detroit.

Given the current AFC playoff landscape, the Steelers' best chance of making the postseason is winning the division, and having every impact player on the field for the remaining games is critical to achieving that goal.

Metcalf knows better than to interact with fans in this way, but his actions could have serious consequences depending on how the league treats them.

The Steelers will play the Cleveland Browns in Week 17 before taking on the Ravens to conclude the regular season in Week 18 on January 4th.
