A shoplifting suspect in Canton, Ohio, allegedly tried to shoot a police officer at point-blank range Thursday, but his gun jammed.
Fox News reported The suspect was taken to the security room of a local Walmart store and surveillance footage showed him pulling out a gun and allegedly attempting to shoot the officer.
Fox 8 marked The officer had just asked the suspected shoplifter, 21-year-old Shane Newman, “Do you have anything I need to know? Why is your hand in your pocket?”
The verbal altercation between Newman and the officer continued, and Newman began to become nervous when the officer dialed his Social Security number. Newman then allegedly turned around, pulled a gun from a bag he was carrying and allegedly attempted to shoot the officer. However, the gun jammed.
A “Walmart security officer” then intervened and took the gun away from Newman before the officer was targeted again.
It turns out Newman had an arrest warrant that described him as “armed and dangerous.”
