Eagles’ win Saturday night eliminates Cowboys from playoff contention

The Dallas Cowboys have missed the Super Bowl for 30 straight years after being eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday night. Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Commanders 29-18.

Eagles win over Washington clinched Philadelphia's second straight NFC East title, becoming the division's first repeat champion since the 2004 Eagles.

The Cowboys had an outside chance to compete for the division title on Saturday night. They would need to win their last three games and the Eagles would need to lose their last three games.

With the Eagles' win, Dallas will now take the field against the Eagles. Los Angeles Chargers It's Sunday and there's nothing to play for.

This is also the first time since 2020 that the Cowboys will miss the playoffs in two straight seasons.

Dallas went all-in at this year's trade deadline in an attempt to boost its playoff chances by trading a 2027 first-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick to the New York Jets for cornerback Quinnen Williams. But it won't pay off in the short term for the Cowboys after their 2025 bust. Williams' contract runs until 2027.

Questions about whether the Cowboys will be competitive in 2025 arose after the team traded star linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the season. The Cowboys' defense ranks 29th in the NFL this year without Parsons.

Dallas gave its fans some hope by winning a three-game series in November, rebounding from 3-5-1 to 6-5-1 and within striking distance of the seventh seed in the NFC. But loss 44-30 in prime time On December 4, the Detroit Lions took all the air out of their hands and reduced Dallas' playoff chances to just 8%.

They lost their next game at home to JJ McCarthy's Minnesota Vikings, who also won't make the playoffs.

The Eagles hope to defend their Super Bowl title and turn things around with a win over Washington.

The Eagles had lost three games in a row, including a 21-point lead over the Cowboys, before snapping their losing streak with a lopsided win over the Raiders last week.

Philadelphia will end the season against Buffalo Bills next week and a rematch at home against Washington in Week 18.
