Here is the statement in full:
“Going to the movies in a dark theater filled with strangers laughing, crying, screaming in fear or watching an intense drama unfold is still an unforgettable thrill. Tell us the story that audiences demand of us. Having absorbed everything he learned from his father Carl and his mentor Norman Lear, Rob Reiner was not only a great comic actor, he became a master storyteller. There is no other director who has such range. From comedy to drama, from “documentary” to documentary, he always captivated the audience. They lined up to watch his films.
“His comedic skill was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of dialogue right and his sharpening of the drama was simply elegant. He loved actors. For writers, he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt like they were working as a team. It was a privilege to be in his hands as a director, but that is only part of his legacy.”
“Rob was also a passionate and courageous citizen who not only cared about this country he loved, but did everything he could to make it a better place, and with his loving wife Michelle, he had the perfect partner. Strong and determined, Michelle and Rob Reiner dedicated much of their lives to improving the lives of our fellow citizens… Together they were a special force – dynamic, selfless and inspiring. We were their friends, and we will miss them forever.”
“There’s a line from one of Rob’s favorite movies, It’s a Wonderful Life: “Every man’s life touches many other lives, and when he’s not around, he leaves a terrible hole, doesn’t it?” You have no idea.”
