NASA Shares SpaceX Crew-12 Assignments for Space Station Mission

NASA's SpaceX Crew-12 mission will send four crew members from three space agencies to the International Space Station on a long-duration science mission no earlier than Sunday, February 15, 2026.

NASA astronauts Jessica Meir And Jack Hathaway will serve as the spacecraft's commander and pilot, respectively, and will be accompanied by ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Sophie Adeno and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrei Fedyaev, who will both serve as mission specialists. Crew 12 will join the Expedition 74 crew members currently aboard the space station.

This flight will be SpaceX's 12th crew rotation to the orbiting laboratory as part of the SpaceX program. NASA Commercial Crew Program. Crew-12 will conduct scientific research and technology demonstrations to help prepare humans for future exploration missions to the Moon and Mars, as well as benefit people on Earth.

This will be the second mission to the space station for Meir, who was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2013. The Caribou, Maine native received a bachelor's degree in biology from Brown University, a master's degree in space studies from the International Space University, and a doctorate in marine biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. During her first spaceflight, Meir spent 205 days as a flight engineer during Expedition 61/62 and performed the first three all-female spacewalks with fellow NASA astronaut Christina Koch, spending a total of 21 hours and 44 minutes off-station. Since then, she has held various positions, including Assistant Chief Astronaut for Commercial Crew (SpaceX), Deputy Mission Integration Office, and Assistant Chief Astronaut for Human Landing System.

US Navy Commander Hathaway has been selected as one of the 2021 astronaut candidates. This will be Hathaway's first space flight. The South Windsor, Connecticut native holds a bachelor's degree in physics and history from the United States Naval Academy and a master's degree in flight dynamics from Cranfield University, as well as a master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the United States Naval War College, respectively. Hathaway is also a 2011 graduate of the Imperial Fixed Wing Test Pilot School Class 70. At the time of his selection, Hathaway was serving aboard the USS Truman as the future executive officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 81. He has more than 2,500 flight hours in 30 different aircraft, including more than 500 aircraft carrier landings and 39 combat missions.

The Crew-12 mission will be Adenoth's first spaceflight. Before being selected as an ESA astronaut in 2022, Adenot completed an engineering degree at ISAE-SUPAERO in Toulouse, France, specializing in spacecraft and aircraft flight dynamics. She also received a Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. After completing her master's degree, she became a helicopter cockpit design engineer at Airbus Helicopters and then worked as a search and rescue pilot at Cazeau Air Base from 2008 to 2012. She then joined the Senior Leadership Transport Squadron in Villacoublay, France and served as a Flight Leader and Mission Captain from 2012 to 2017. From 2019 to 2022, Adeno worked as a helicopter test pilot. at the Cazeau flight test center at the DGA (Générale de l'Armement – French Defense Procurement Agency). She has logged over 3,000 flight hours in 22 different helicopters.

This will be Fedyaev's second extended stay aboard the orbital laboratory. In 2004, he graduated from the Krasnodar Military Aviation Institute with a degree in Aircraft Operation and Air Traffic Management and received the qualification of a pilot engineer. Before being elected as a cosmonaut, he served as deputy commander of the Il-38 squadron in the Kamchatka region, flew more than 600 hours and received the rank of second-class military pilot. Fedyaev was selected to join the cosmonaut corps of the Gagarin Scientific Testing Center for Cosmonaut Training in 2012 and has served as a test cosmonaut since 2014. In 2023, he flew to the space station as a mission specialist on NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 mission, spending 186 days in orbit as Expedition 69's flight engineer. For his achievements, Fedyaev was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation and received the Yuri Gagarin Medal.

For more than 25 years, people have lived and worked continuously aboard the International Space Station, developing scientific knowledge and making research breakthroughs that would not be possible on Earth. The station is a critical test site for NASA to understand and overcome the challenges of long-duration spaceflight and expand commercial capabilities in low Earth orbit. As commercial companies focus on providing services and destinations for human space transportation within a reliable low-orbit economyNASA is focusing its resources on deep space missions to the Moon as part of the Artemis Campaign in preparation for future human missions to Mars.
