Dave Diver took over my computer by Christmas 2023. I found the Mintrocket computer. amazingly charming restaurant manager/ocean explorer the joy of swimming through the depths, fighting big fish, discovering ancient civilizations, and then returning to the surface to serve sushi. To be honest, I haven't thought about returning for a long time, but the fresh take the developers have just offered in their upcoming Into the Jungle DLC has got me really thinking.
In “The Jungle”, as the title suggests, Dave, Chef Bancho and company head to a place where there are a lot of trees. Instead of his free movement being primarily limited to deep sea diving, the diver will be able to roam the jungle village and surrounding forest, helping the locals in many ways. Stardew Valley-equal ways, including knocking coconuts off trees and chopping riffs in an adorable manner. Guitar Hero parody.
Lest you think you're staying dry, there's a large jungle lake where you can conquer the depths while battling crocodiles, piranhas and eels. To take them down, there's a new jungle gun that can switch between net shooting, shotgun and sniper rifle on command. In addition to these animals, the lake is home to many freshwater fish, which cannot be eaten raw. Try switching from Bancho Sushi to Bancho Grill, a restaurant the chef opens in a jungle village. Instead of serving a crowd of hungry people, Dave will wander between tables, making his plate-smashing performance more difficult.
Overall, the DLC offers a much more free-flowing Davely diving experience, to the point where the hours are filled in real time rather than the days being divided into morning, noon and night. For now, the expansion remains without a specific release date as it was postponed to 2026 as of June of this year.
So we'll have plenty of time to dive back into Dave's original adventure and find out if crossover beasts like Godzilla still waiting somewhere in the depths. Honestly, you'd think that in this particular case it would be big enough to be seen from afar, especially if you bellow something provocative like: “Is this an indie game?“
