México sustituye a Venezuela como sede de la próxima Serie del Caribe – Chicago Tribune

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) — After days of uncertainty over whether the Caribbean Series would be held in Venezuela as planned due to geopolitical tensions in that country, Mexico will take its place as host of the baseball competition, leaders said Thursday.

The competition, which will take place from February 1 to 7, will be held in the city of Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara, after the Mexican Pacific League invited the country to serve as an alternative host.

Three days earlier, the Caribbean Confederation of Professional Baseball said Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Mexico had decided not to visit Venezuela for the tournament due to tensions between that country and the United States.

Salvador Escobar, president of the Mexican Pacific League, confirmed at a press conference that the Caribbean Confederation of Professional Baseball has decided to move its headquarters to Mexico.

“We have the quality and infrastructure to organize the event. It was decided that the headquarters of the Caribbean Series will be in Guadalajara, and we are pleased to be able to convey this news. It was an unexpected and somewhat hasty decision,” Escobar admitted while talking to media in that city. “We have little time, but great organizational capabilities. We are very pleased that the Confederation and the rest of the countries have accepted this proposal.”

The Mexican Pacific League will host the Caribbean Series for the second year in a row after Mexicali hosted the series in 2025. Additionally, this will be the 17th time Mexico will host the event, a record number in the Confederation.
