BBC Inside Science – How did President Trump transform science in 2025?

Available for 35 days

This week, the director of President Trump's Office of Management and Budget announced that a major climate research center would be disbanded. 2025 brought a wave of reorganizations and funding cuts that changed the way science is done in the United States. Veteran science journalist Roland Pease tells us whether we're starting to see the consequences. Victoria Gill takes an underground tour of Finland's new nuclear waste disposal facility. They are the first country in the world to achieve this certification and the UK is interested in finding out how they did it. Victoria is also joined by science journalist Caroline Steele to talk about this week's science. And 40 years ago, Dian Fossey was murdered in her home in Rwanda, where she had spent decades studying mountain gorillas. Jilly Forrester, Professor of Comparative Cognition at the University of Sussex, talks about why data collected from Diane the Gorilla in the Mist continues to shape science today.
