Actress Meg Ryan pays tribute Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner on Wednesday, praising the couple for their belief in “true love, fairy tales and laughter.”
Ryan starred in Reiner's When Harry Met Sally… classic rom-com this served as her breakthrough role.
“Oh, how we will miss this man,” Ryan said in post on Instagram. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle, for the way you believe in true love, fairy tales and laughter. Thank you for your belief in the best in people and for your deep love for our country.”
“I have to believe that their story won't end with this impossible tragedy, that something good can come and awareness can be raised,” Ryan continued. “I don't know, but I'm guessing they would want it to be hopeful and humane, so that it would lead us all to a better understanding of each other and to some peace.”
Reiner and his wife were found dead Sunday at their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Their son Nick Rayner was arrested on murder charges.
Ryan's When Harry Met Sally co-star Billy Crystal released a joint statement with several of Reiner's other close friends, including his childhood friend. Albert Brooks. In a statement provided Associated Pressthey said, “Rob Reiner was not only a great comic actor, he became a master storyteller… His comedic prowess was beyond compare.”

“Michelle and Rob Reiner have dedicated much of their lives to serving our fellow citizens,” the statement said. “Together they were a special force – dynamic, selfless and inspiring. We were their friends and we will miss them forever.”
The happy ending of When Harry Met Sally… was inspired by real life: Reiner said he changed it to keep the couple together after meeting his future wife Michelle on the set of the film. They married in 1989 and had three children: sons Nick and Jake and daughter Romy.
