OnePlus officially launches the 15R, the company's mid-range alternative. OnePlus 15. The phone is already available for pre-order and will go on sale starting January 8 on the company's website.
The smartphone costs $999.99 for the base model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. This RAM/ROM storage configuration is available in all color options – these colors include Jet Black and the phone's cute Mint Breeze color. The $1,149.99 model comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage; however, it is only available in Jet Black. The device has a matte back and I like how it feels in my hand. It is very similar to the OP15, but without the telephoto lens, the rear camera looks very sleek.
Although theoretically a mid-range option, the phone still packs a powerful punch. Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. During the time spent with the phone, I was able to play several Marvel Snap works without warming up the phone and the device offers impressive results. The Geekbench 6 benchmark shows a single-core score of 2,796 and a multi-core score of 8,971, which is lower than the OnePlus 15 and even some Snapdragon 8 Elite devices like the ROG Phone 9, but in line with similar scores Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
The phone has a 6.83-inch display with a resolution of 2800 x 1272 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, which is great for gaming. It also has a 50-megapixel camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. It also has a 32MP selfie camera. The camera is okay, but the OP15 and others offer better shooting capabilities; There are even more affordable phones like the Pixel 9a that offer more detailed and vibrant photos.
Additionally, the OnePlus 15R packs a 7,400mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging and IP69 water resistance. Like the OnePlus 15, the phone features OnePlus AI with AI Recorder, AI Writer, AI Scan and AI Portrait Glow to help with AI lighting. There's also the company's AI Key and Plus Mind, which allow you to take quick screenshots and your device will use AI to analyze the screenshot. If there are dates in the screenshots, OnePlus AI will create a calendar event, which I really like. You can read more about my thoughts on OnePlus AI in my OnePlus 15 full review.
I'm impressed with the OnePlus 15R. It may not be the best of the best, but cramming a huge battery, 12GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a 165Hz refresh rate, and a huge 7,400mAh battery into a $999 phone is impressive, and something some competitors should take note of. You won't get a perfect camera experience, but if you're not someone who takes a lot of pictures, then this device is definitely worth considering.
You can pre-order the OnePlus 15R now.
