Elle Duncan leaves ESPN for Netflix, will host sports and cultural live events – Winnipeg Free Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Elle Duncan has signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce sports and other cultural events.

The streamer announced this on Thursday.

Duncan has worked for ESPN since 2016, where she anchored the 6:00 p.m. edition of “SportsCenter” as well as the women's NCAA and WNBA tournament.

Her last appearance at SportsCenter took place on Tuesday.

“Elle Duncan's proven ability to seamlessly transition between hard-hitting sports analysis and warm, personality-driven cultural hosting makes her a perfect fit for Netflix. She immediately adds credibility and familiar star power to our global programming lineup,” said Gabe Spitzer, Netflix's vice president of sports.

Over the past two years, Netflix has rapidly expanded its sports portfolio. For the second year in a row it will have a double header on Christmas Day. Next season it will begin hosting Major League Baseball games, which include the opening night game and home run derby.

Duncan's first on-air duties at Netflix will be early next year with Skyscraper Live. The event will feature rock climber Alex Honnold's attempt to scale Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan.

“Joining Netflix is like being invited to an already legendary party and somehow being given an extra cord! For a lifelong multisport player, this is a full-circle moment,” Duncan said in a statement.
