Blizzard conditions continue across Saskatchewan and Manitoba today.

Environment Canada says a winter storm system is moving through the southern portions of the two Prairie provinces, where snowfall and gusty winds will begin to subside today.

Winter storm warnings have also been issued for north-central Ontario and Quebec, with up to 30 centimeters of snow forecast.

In northern regions of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, Arctic-like temperatures are causing the mercury to drop to about -45 to -50 degrees Celsius, with wind chills blowing in, the National Weather Agency says.

A strong Alberta Clipper kept Alberta Regional Police very busy Wednesday dealing with dozens of weather-related traffic accidents due to very icy conditions.

On one major route in Alberta, police responded to massive pile-ups and delays involving 80 to 100 vehicles, closing the Queen Elizabeth II Highway between Calgary and Airdrie for several hours.
