More than 63 tons of pork sandwiches recalled because of plastic pieces

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based EA Sween is recalling 127,887 pounds of pulled pork sandwiches that may be contaminated with pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The problem was discovered after the company received numerous complaints from consumers who found pieces of plastic in grilled pork sandwiches. EA Sween determined that the plastic originated from plastic barbecue bottles used in production.

Grilled pork sandwiches were produced on various dates from January 13th to October 15th.

FSIS is concerned that some foods may be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who purchase these products are urged not to consume them.

The sandwiches were sent to retailers across the country and to the Department of Defense.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 5.5 oz. Sandwiches “Deli EXPRESS BBQ BREW PORK on a bun with sesame seeds” in paper packaging.

Products subject to recall have the establishment number “EST.2451” printed inside the USDA inspection mark.

There have been no confirmed reports of injuries resulting from the use of this product.
